Ricky Gervais Podcast no longer free
The BBC comedy blog wrote yesterday about how Ricky Gervais is going to start charging for his popular podcast. It’ll only cost a £1 but could start a trend.
Would I subscribe if I had to pay? I’m not sure. It’ll be interesting to see how it works out and if he can replicate the success he had with the free podcast. He had over 250,000 downloads a week so even if he get half that he’ll be a very rich man.
Would you pay a quid to hear Gervais?

Looking for free Ricky Gervais MP3’s?
XFM have put up some MP3’s of his old Saturday morning shows.

Hmmmmmm….I’m not sure about this. The podcasts have been entertaining enough but compared to the original XFM shows they lack a certain something. Maybe it was the edgyness of the XFM live broadcast and the very real chance that he might say “cock” on radio and irritate the censors. Maybe it was, as Steve Merchant put it “the banging choons” they used to play, or maybe it is the fact that much of the chat is in fact recycled from the XFM original. BTW, the XFM shows can be downloaded in one archive from isohunt using bittorrent and I strongly recommend it. They are encoded in ogg but can easily be converted.

Ricky’s XFM show was one of the highlights of the weekend for me - the fact they got away with so much, you’re right, made the whole show o much more exciting. The sheer number of “oh my God did he just say what I thought he just said” moments was only rivalled by the decent music they play on XFM.
If he makes millions with his podcast and he probably will it’ll mean he’ll never go back to XFM which would be a real shame.
