Some of the worst radio I’ve ever heard
Picture the scene; I get home from work late after a bad day. Feeling tired and low I tune in to Radio 4. Imagine my surprise when I hear Count Arthur Strong’s Radio show. Instead of the usual six thirty comedy I hear some variety show out of the 1950’s. Confusing, unfunny, clichéd rubbish by someone pretending to be some has been variety star and what’s worse? It’s on again next week.
Come on Radio 4 get him off air now!
Did anybody else hear it? If so tell the world what you thought.

Hi Joe,
I completely agree, why did Radio 4 put this on the air? At least it’s only on for 2 weeks.
Love the blog by the way!
Dan

Hi Dan,
That was a quick reply! Glad to hear you feel the same way. I hope Radio 4 are reading and will do something about it.

He’s not that bad. I saw him live recently and he was actually really funny. I heard the show last night and admittedly it wasn’t one of his best. Give the guy a break.
Chris.

I am with you and Dan on this one. I love the 6.30 comedy slot generally but this was trash. I honestly thought I was missing something and that this show might be being highly ironic and postmodern by being deliberately bad. The studio laughter was painful too. No more please.

Give it time fellas. Give it time.

If that last comment is genuinely from Mrs Strong then fair play to you for posting in the face of some pretty tough criticism. I checked out the Arthur Strong website and there are some strong and credible reviews. Its not my cup of tea at all but someone must like it.

I really don’t understand the, “I don’t like it. What do radio 4 think they’re playing at”, brigade. I’ve just had a look at his website. The radio show has been pick of the week in just about everything and on that basis you suggest it shouldn’t be on? If you feel like that again on a Thursday at 6.30 go and have a bath or something. It’s only half an hour a week! Radio 4 isn’t just there for you. I havent’t heard it but will definitely tune in this week. If I don’t like it I won’t listen again. I’ll leave it for those who do.

Hi Dosser,
Thanks for the comment.
I respect Radio 4 for trying something different - As I’m sure you know that a fair few alternative comedians owe a lot to Radio 4 for helping them to break into the mainstream. There is a place for this kind of comedy on Radio 4 and it’s 11.15 at night and not 6.30 in the evening where it doesn’t quite fit.
Rest assured I’ll be in the bath next Thursday and after you hear the show I bet you’ll wish you had been relaxing with your Radox and rubber ducks too.

i think arthur strong is great stuff, side splitting humour, a great escape from all the bad news of the day

I saw him in Wolverhampton this week. Count Arthur Strong, The Opera? Side splitting stuff with guaranteed next day tittering. I love the scrounging, demented, tourets inflicted, drunken old git. Reminds me of those lovely radio shows of the 50s but with 21st century bite. Beautifully observed. Don’t miss out because A Twerp without any sense of humour tells you to.
