Creative Future – More Radio comedy and personilised content

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

Personalisation and immediacy are going to be critical for music – on broadband, mobile, podcasting – and we want users to be able to create their own virtual radio channels out of the wealth of our music output, channels which reflect their tastes and priorities.

BBC director general, Mark Thompson

Radio comedy will also receive a bit of a boost as part of the Creative Future with more mainstream comedy shows and series expected. The commissioning of interactive and online spin-offs is to be more closely integrated with radio and TV comedy.

Britain’s Modern Brunels

Friday, April 7th, 2006

Interesting documentary coming this Wednesday looking at modern day Brunels.

They’ve moved mountains, broken world speed records and could soon take the ‘long’ and the ‘haul’ out of long-haul flying but still, which modern British engineer could possibly compare with the great Isambard Kingdom Brunel? In a new four-part series celebrating the bicentenary of one of the greatest of Britons, Sue Nelson encounters Britain’s Modern Brunels.

Wednesdays 12 April to 3 May 2006 9.00-9.30pm.

As Safe as Houses

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

I love Marcus Brigstocke, I think he’s one of the best things about Radio 4. I caught the second programme in his series on the British obsession with owning their own house last Saturday and what a treat it was.

Apparently the Queen owns the land my house is built on, not sure if I’m ok with that, still there’s not much I can do about it I guess.

The final part of the three part series is next Saturday at 10.30am.

John Peel Day

Reith Lectures on Radio 4

Friday, April 1st, 2005

I first came across the Reith Lectures in 2003 with Vilayanur Ramachandran giving a fascinating series of lectures on the brain and perception and for a simple soul like me they made sense. He avoids the dull chemisty stuff and gets right into the interesting stuff- like what is art and how do we percieve beauty.

The lectures start again next week on Radio 4 – The Triumph of Technology. Lord Broers aurgues that Technology is the future for the human race. I can’t wait.
